Enhance Your Finish with PENETROL®: The Ultimate Oil-Based Additive!
PENETROL® Oil-Based Coating Additive is a versatile low-odor additive to improve penetration, adhesion and flow of oil-based paints, stains, varnishes and primers.
PENETROL is a free-flowing, low-odor, high quality penetrating oil-based paint additive which compensates for the adverse effects that weather and surface conditions have on paints and primers. Use in oil or alkyd-based paints, varnishes and primers. May also be used to condition metal and faded, weathered fiberglass surfaces.
Key Features & Benefits
- Improves penetration and adhesion to compensate for weathering on surface
- Improves flow to reduce brush marks; extends open and working times
- Restores luster to faded, weathered fiberglass
- Inhibits rust on metal surfaces
RECOMMENDED USES / SUBSTRATES
- Use in Oil or Alkyd-Based Paints, Varnishes and Primers
- Use on Metal
- Use on Faded, Weathered Fiberglass
DRYING TIME
Allow 12-24 hours dry if used on bare metal when applied in optimal temperatures of 50°F (10°C) to 85°F (29°C). When added to paint, may increase the dry time of the paint. High humidity or temperatures below 50°F (10°C) may prolong drying and recoating times.
CLEANUP
Clean brushes and tools with mineral spirits.
DIRECTIONS FOR INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR USE FLOOD PENETROL Oil-Based Paint Additive
Always mix a small amount of PENETROL with the paint you are using to determine compatibility.
Adding to Oil or Alkyd-Based Paint or Primers:
Stir and mix oil or alkyd-based paint thoroughly. As paint begins to set up too fast or “drag”, stir in PENETROL. Start with approximately one pint (473 mL) PENETROL per gallon (3.78 Liters) of paint. If paint is thick, or in extreme hot or cold temperatures, more PENETROL may be added, up to 2.5 pints (1.18 Liters) per gallon (3.78 Liters) of paint.
Faux Finishing:
PENETROL, mixed directly into oil or alkyd-based paint, will improve the brushability of your paint and flow and leveling of the base coat. PENETROL keeps paint from drying too fast thus increasing the working time of your paint and glazes. Using an empty container or dispensable cup as a measuring device, mix 3 volumes of oil or alkyd-based paint to 1 volume of PENETROL. The more PENETROL you add to the mixture (glaze) the more open time you will have and the more translucent the finish. Do not add too much conditioner for vertical surfaces as the technique may cause the paint to sag or vanish.
Conditioning Bare or Rusted Metal:
Remove loose rust, excess dirt, oil and grease. Be sure surface is dry. Saturate the metal with PENETROL. Allow 12-24 hours for drying.
NOTE: For brass, copper, aluminum and chrome, scrub surface with fine steel wool soaked in PENETROL and polish with a clean rag.
Conditioning Fiberglass:
Clean surface to be conditioned. Saturate a rag with PENETROL, wipe it on fiberglass surface. Buff surface with a clean, soft cloth within 3-5 minutes.
