Unleash Vintage Charm with Modern Masters Crackle for Latex Paint!
Modern Masters Crackle for Latex Paint is a clear, water-based medium, which consistently delivers reliable crackling effects. Apply it between two layers of flat latex paint to make the top color crack, revealing hints of the base color for an antique appearance. For striking, shimmering cracks, use Modern Masters Metallic Paint Collection™ colours as the base coat. It can also create crackle effects in Modern Masters Venetian Plaster and ShimmerStone. Ideal for enhancing furniture, woodwork, trim, lamps, and decorative accessories.
- Creates an authentic cracked paint surface in just minutes.
- Covers approximately 80 to 100 sqft per 946ml (1L).
Surface Preparation:
All surfaces must be clean, sound, and non-absorbent. If priming is necessary, we recommend Zinsser's Bulls Eye 1-2-3® Primer.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Crackle Finish:
Step 1:
- Apply one coat of Modern Masters® Metallic Paint or any eggshell/satin latex paint. This will be the color of your cracks.
- Ensure the surface is properly prepared.
- Allow it to dry completely (about 1 hour).
-
Tip: If using natural brick or wood, seal it first with Modern Masters® Satin Varnish and dry completely.
Step 2:
- Apply one coat of Modern Masters Crackle for Latex Paint (DP601).
- Use a brush, roller, or spray gun. For best results, use a medium/long-nap 4-inch 'sausage roller'.
- Remember, a thicker application results in larger cracks. Do not thin the paint.
- Allow it to dry to the touch (about 45 minutes).
Step 3:
- Apply a thick coat of flat latex paint in your chosen color. This will be the overall color.
- Use a brush, sea sponge, roller, or spray gun. Thicker application leads to larger cracks.
- Work quickly, especially in hot, dry climates.
- For brushing, cross-hatch strokes to create erratic, wide cracks.
- Use a medium nap roller for a uniform, consistent crack when rolling.
- Avoid back rolling or back brushing to maintain the cracking process.
- Complete the application within 6 hours in a dry environment.
- Allow it to dry completely (about 24 hours).
