Circa 1850 Furniture Stripper – Non-Flammable Paint & Varnish Remover
Circa 1850 Furniture Stripper quickly strips multiple layers of oil, latex and epoxy paint, varnish, polyurethane, moisture-cure finishes, lacquer and shellac. It's non-flammable and almost odourless, and it needs no afterwash or neutralizing. It's safe for fine furniture and antiques: it won't raise the grain, harm most glue joints or veneers, or damage the patina.

Where to Use It
Wood furniture, cabinets, trim, doors and antiques, on horizontal surfaces indoors. Not for dye stains. It may soften plastic and fibreglass. For vertical surfaces or exterior work, use Circa 1850 Heavy Body Paint & Varnish Remover, which clings instead of running.

Furniture Stripper is a liquid, best for flat surfaces, furniture pieces and fine detail. Heavy Body is a thick gel that stays put on walls, doors, railings and exterior work. Both are non-flammable and safe for antiques.

Application Guide
- Set up. Work out of direct sun and wind. Wear Circa 1850 Stripping Gloves and eye protection, and cover the work area with plastic or foil.
- Open carefully. Contents may be under pressure. Cool a warm container first, cover the cap with a rag and open slowly.
- Apply. Pour some stripper into a metal or foil container and brush on a generous coat over 1–4 sq. ft.
- Wait about 5 minutes, or until the finish blisters. Keep the area completely wet, and reapply if it starts to dry out.
- Remove the finish with the brush or a scraper. The Circa 1850 Maple Scraper won't gouge the wood.
- Repeat on very thick finishes.
- Clean off residue with finishing pads or steel wool dipped in stripper.
- Let it dry, then sand lightly before staining or refinishing.
