Application

1. Test First

Always perform a small test in an inconspicuous area before beginning the complete project.

The test helps determine:

2. Prepare the Surface

Remove loose debris and coatings by rinsing or pressure washing where appropriate.

Allow the substrate to dry completely.

Protect adjacent surfaces where paint removal is not desired.

3. Apply Peel Away 1

Apply approximately:

1/8" to 1/4" thick

Use a plastic scraper or trowel.

Work in sections of approximately 10 sq. ft. or less before covering the remover.

4. Apply Dumond Laminated Paper

Immediately cover the applied remover with Dumond Laminated Paper.

Smooth the paper against the remover and eliminate visible air pockets.

The laminated paper is an essential part of the Peel Away 1 system because it helps prevent the remover from drying during its dwell period.

Do not allow Peel Away 1 to harden.

Dwell Time

At approximately 10–32°C (50–90°F):

Allow approximately 12–24 hours.

At approximately 2–9°C (35–49°F):

Allow approximately 24–48 hours.

Actual dwell time varies according to:

• Number of paint layers

• Type and age of coatings

• Surface temperature

• Application thickness

• Substrate

Higher temperatures may accelerate paint removal but can also cause the product to dry more quickly.

Testing is the best way to establish the correct dwell time.

Removing the Paint

Work in small sections of approximately 1–2 sq. ft.

Score and lift the laminated paper, then use a trowel or scraper to remove the softened paint and stripper.

Scrub the exposed surface using water and a sponge or nylon-bristle brush.

Rinse thoroughly to remove remaining residue.

Collect paint and stripper waste and dispose of it according to applicable regulations.

Surface Neutralization

Peel Away 1 must be neutralized before the surface is repainted.

Peel Away 1 is an alkaline paint remover with a pH of approximately 12.

After removing the paint:

1. Allow the substrate to dry for approximately 24–48 hours or longer.

2. Apply the included Citri-Lize pH Neutralizer according to its instructions.

3. Do not rinse Citri-Lize off after application.

4. Allow the substrate to dry for another 24–48 hours.

5. Test the surface using the included pH test kit.

Before recoating, the surface should have:

pH: 6–8

Moisture content: below 12%

If the pH remains too high, Dumond recommends using household distilled vinegar to further lower the substrate pH.

Proper neutralization is essential before applying a new coating.
