Overview:
Messmers UV Plus U.V. Plus is an oil based penetrating wood finish suitable for decks, log homes, woodsiding, fencing and other exterior wood surfaces. U.V. Plus protects wood while maintaining a naturalappearance.
Surface Preparation:
Always clean gray or dirty wood before applying UV Plus. Use Messmer’s WD Wood & Deck Cleaner (A) and Brightener (B) available in powder concentrates. Allow wood to completely dry for at least 24 to 48 hours. Previously stained or treated wood should be sufficiently weathered to allow for complete penetration. New redwood should be aged at least 6-8 weeks and cleaned and brightened before applying product.

Use paint thinner. Dispose of waste in accordance withlocal, state and federal regulations.
Danger - Rags, steel wool or waste soaked with UV Plus mayspontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Immediatelyafter each use, place rags, steel wool or waste in a sealed, waterfilled metal container.

A2. Messmer's UV Plus is ideal for use on cedar, pine, redwood, and other exterior woods.
A3. On vertical, smooth surfaces, UV Plus can be expected to last for 2-3 years, on rough surfaces, 3-4 years and on decks 1-2 years. The time element will vary depending on conditions such as sunlight, weather, and direction of exposure.
A4. The proper temperature for applying Messmer's UV Plus is between 10C and 32C (50F-90F). Avoid application in direct sunlight on hot days. If the wood is hot to the touch, it is too hot to apply Messmer's UV Plus.
A5. Yes, Messmer's UV Plus is available in 15 colors, while UV Plus for Hardwood Decks is available in 2 colors.
A6. This is usually caused by oversaturation of UV Plus on the wood. Remember, UV Plus must be able to penetrate completely to work properly. Remove any excess material promptly. Within 48 hours of application, scrub affected areas with lacquer thinner or MEK solvent to soften excess material. Wipe dry. If product has cured to the point that this does not correct the problem, excess material must be removed by chemical stripping or sanding. Dispose of clean up materials according to local, state and federal regulations.
A7. Water beading is accomplished by adding waxes or paraffin to the stain. These additives do not last very long and are not good permanent water repellents, in addition to this they interfere with adhesion should you decide to paint over the stain. That’s why we don’t use them in our products. The high solids content of UV Plus fills the pores of the wood, providing excellent water repellency that will last.
