Osmo UV-Protection Oil
Osmo UV-Protection Oil is a satin, microporous oil finish for vertical exterior wood. Used on its own with two coats, it delays greying by a UV protection factor of 12 compared with untreated wood. It's offered clear or in eight light tints, and renewing it later needs no sanding or primer.

Where to Use It
Vertical exterior wood: timber cladding and siding, fences, doors, window frames, shutters, carports, pergolas and balconies' vertical parts. Oily woods such as cedar and teak should weather first.
Not for decks or other horizontal surfaces. Osmo does not recommend it as the only finish for decking. For decks use Osmo Decking Oil.

UV-Protection Oil or Decking Oil?
UV-Protection Oil is for walls, fences and other vertical wood. Osmo Decking Oil is made for decks and other surfaces that take foot traffic and standing water.

Application Guide
- Prep. Wood must be clean, dry, frost-free and under 20% moisture. Don't sand finer than P120. If wood has greyed, treat it with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel first.
- Check the details. Round sharp edges (radius over 2 mm). Vertical pieces fixed to horizontal wood should have at least a 15° angle.
- Stir well. Use as supplied and don't thin.
- Apply thinly along the grain with an Osmo flat brush or microfibre roller, and spread well.
- Dry about 12 hours with good ventilation, then apply the second coat.
- Clean tools with Osmo Brush Cleaner.
FAQ
1How much do I need for a fence or siding?
One litre covers about 18 m² (194 sq ft) per coat. A 6 ft high, 40 ft long fence has about 240 sq ft per side, so two coats on both sides is about 960 sq ft of coverage, roughly 5 L. A 2.5 L can does about 485 sq ft per coat. Rough wood uses more.
2Should I choose clear or tinted?
Clear keeps the wood's natural colour, and Osmo gives it UV factor 12 with two coats. Tinted shades add colour while still showing the grain. Test on a hidden spot, as oils deepen wood tone.
3What is the difference between 410 and 420?
420 is clear with film protection against mould, algae and fungus. 410 is clear without it. Osmo notes this protection delays, but cannot permanently prevent, algae or fungal growth.
4Can I use it on a deck?
No. Osmo doesn't recommend it for decking or other horizontal surfaces. Use Osmo Decking Oil instead.
5Can I apply it over an existing stain or paint?
It's meant for bare wood and wood already finished with an intact oil finish, where one coat is usually enough. For paint, varnish or other stains, contact us first.
6How often do I need to recoat?
Inspect the finish at least once a year. Osmo suggests one thin coat after about 3–4 years on intact wood, and sooner on exposed areas like sills and post caps. No sanding is needed.
7How do I clean brushes and rollers?
Use Osmo Brush Cleaner. Water won't remove oil finish.
8What is the best weather for applying it?
Work in dry weather with wood and air ideally between 10 and 35 °C, and no frost. In most of Canada that means late spring to early fall. Allow about 12 hours between coats.
