Osmo UV Protection Oil Application Guide:

Osmo UV-Protection-Oil is a satin, finish for the exterior that is based on natural oils. Microporous and will not crack, flake, peel or blister. When used as a
final finish after staining wood, Osmo UV-Protection-Oil prolongs the time between renovation significantly. As a solitary finish, it delays the greying process on vertical surfaces by a UV-Protection factor of 12 in comparison to untreated wood. Easy to apply and renew with no sanding or primer necessary. When dry, the finish is safe for humans, animals and plants and is suitable for children’s toys as per EN 71.3 (European norm) and resistant to perspiration and saliva in accordance with DIN 53160 (German industrial norm).

Surface Preparation:

Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%). UV-Protection-Oil Tints is ready to use, please do not thin. Stir well before use.

Directions For Use:

Apply thinly along the wood grain with Osmo Natural Bristle Brush or Osmo Microfibre Roller and spread well. Allow to dry for approx. 12 hours with good ventilation. Then apply the second coat. When applying to an already coloured treated surface or when renovating, one coat applied to the clean and dry
surface is usually sufficient.

Oils enhance the natural tone of wood (permanent wet effect). Depending on the degree of weathering, apply one coat of Osmo UV-Protection-Oil Extra to the
cleaned and intact finish after approx. 3-4 years. For areas which are highly exposed to weather, such as weatherboard, post caps or window sills, please
expect substantially shorter intervals between renovations. Vertical elements mounted onto horizontal wood should have at least a 15 degree angle. Sharp
edges must be rounded (radius > 2 mm). If the greying process has already begun, refresh the surface with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel and reapply 2 coats of Osmo UV-Protection-Oil Extra. To achieve the UV protection factor 12, it is necessary to apply 2 coats of UV-Protection-Oil Extra. With only one coat on untreated wood, the life of the finish is significantly shorter. Due to the high oil content, clear UV-Protection-Oil Extra has a light yellowing effect when used as a finish on white substrates. Therefore as a top coat on white finished areas, we recommend Natural Oil Woodstain 900 White.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Osmo UV Protection Oil

Q1. How to apply Osmo UV Protection Oil?

Directions for Use:

  1. Preparation: Make sure the wood surface is clean and free from any dust or debris. This ensures a smooth finish.

  2. Application: Use either an Osmo Natural Bristle Brush or the Osmo Microfibre Roller to apply the UV-Protection-Oil evenly along the wood grain. Spread it well to ensure thorough coverage.

  3. Ventilation: Allow for good ventilation in the area where you're applying the oil. This helps the oil to dry properly and ensures better results.

  4. Second Coat: Wait 12 hours and apply a second coat of the UV-Protection-Oil in the same manner as the first coat. If you're applying it on an already pigmented surface or for renovation, one coat may be enough. Make sure the surface is clean before applying the second coat.

  • If you prefer, you can also spray the UV-Protection-Oil. However, the exact specifications for pressure and spray heads may vary depending on the machine you're using. It's essential to determine the right settings for each application.

  • For the best results, it's recommended to spread out the finish additionally with a natural bristle brush, such as the Osmo Flat Brush. This ensures optimal adhesion and surface quality.

  • When spraying, make sure to use proper protective equipment to avoid inhaling aerosols. It's crucial to prioritize safety during the application process.
