Ramuc Clean and Prep Application Guide:
Overview:
Ramuc Clean & Prep™ Solution is used to clean and degrease; while simultaneously dissolving mineral deposits and increasing porosity for good adhesion on surfaces for painting. It can be used on: painted surfaces, bare plaster, concrete or fiberglass. Clean & Prep is VOC compliant, odor and fume free, water-rinse neutralize and is biodegradable. It is safe to use near plants or grass and is excellent for filter element cleaning.
Surface Preparation:
After all surface repairs, power wash loose material off to a tight surface.
For Bare Concrete, Gunite, Marcite or Plaster:
Mix 1 gallon of Clean & Prep Solution with 2 gallons of water. Cleans approximately 400 square feet. Use garden sprayer for even application of product. Use Clean & Prep at a temperature no lower than 50° or higher than 85°F. Do not let solution set. Once solution is applied and foaming appears, begin scrubbing immediately with a stiff bristle brush/broom. Be sure the heavily soiled areas (such as waterline, steps or regular foot paths on concrete decks) are scrubbed well. After cleaning, triple rinse the surface using a garden hose (do not powerwash) with a strong, steady stream of clean water, while scrubbing to ensure complete removal of all material. Do not let the solution dry on the surface between rinsing. Rinse all at once. Triple rinsing is urged to ensure all of the solution is removed and the surface has been properly cleaned. Prior to painting with a solvent based coating, perform a condensation test per the instructions on the Ramuc product label to ensure a thoroughly dry surface.
For Painted Surfaces or Bare Fiberglass:
Mix 1 gallon Clean & Prep Solution with 5 gallons of water. Cleans approximately 600- 800 square feet. Use garden sprayer for even application of product. Use Clean & Prep at a temperature no lower than 50°F or higher than
85°F. Do not let solution set. Once solution is applied and foaming appears, begin scrubbing immediately with a stiff bristle brush/broom. Frequently Asked Questions:
Ramuc Clean and Prep Solution
1. What is Ramuc Pool Paint Clean & Prep Solution?
This is a high-performance pre-paint preparation product. It is a biodegradable, odor-free, and VOC-compliant liquid that simultaneously cleans, degreases, and etches pool surfaces. It increases surface porosity for optimal paint adhesion, replacing the need for separate hazardous chemicals like muriatic acid or TSP.
2. Do I need to use this before painting my pool?
Yes. Proper surface preparation is the single most critical factor in how long your pool paint lasts. Poor prep is the leading cause of peeling and blistering. Clean & Prep ensures the surface is free of oils, algae, and mineral deposits, opening up the pores so the paint can bond permanently.
3. What traditionally separate products does this replace?
It consolidates three steps into one:
TSP (Trisodium Phosphate): For degreasing and cleaning.
Muriatic Acid: For etching bare concrete and plaster.
Mineral Deposit Removers: For cleaning waterline scale.
4. How do I use it on concrete or plaster pools?
Mix: 1 gallon of Clean & Prep with 2 gallons of water.
Apply: Use a garden sprayer to cover the surface evenly.
Action: Once you see foaming, immediately scrub with a stiff bristle brush. Focus on the waterline, steps, and high-traffic areas.
Rinse: Triple-rinse thoroughly with a strong stream from a garden hose.
Important: Do not let the solution dry on the surface before rinsing, and do not use a power washer for the rinsing step.
5. How do I use it on fiberglass or previously painted pools?
Use a more diluted ratio for these surfaces. One gallon will cover roughly 600–800 sq. ft. The process remains the same: apply, scrub immediately, and triple-rinse. This cleans the surface and creates an adhesion profile without damaging the gelcoat or old paint.
6. How long must I wait to paint after using this solution?
For Epoxy Paints: The surface must be bone-dry. This usually takes 1–3 days of dry weather. Applying epoxy to a damp surface will cause blistering.
For Acrylic Paints (like Ramuc DS): The surface can be slightly damp, but not dripping wet.
7. Is it safe for the environment and my landscaping?
Yes. Unlike muriatic acid, which can kill nearby grass and plants, Clean & Prep is biodegradable and safe to use near landscaping. It is water-neutralized, so no special neutralizing agents or disposal methods are required.
8. How much do I need for my project?
Bare Concrete/Plaster: 1 gallon covers ~400 sq. ft.
Fiberglass/Painted Surfaces: 1 gallon covers 600–800 sq. ft.
Example: A standard 16x32 ft pool (~1,000 sq. ft.) typically requires 3 gallons for bare concrete or 2 gallons for a repaint.
9. Can it be used for anything else?
Yes. It is excellent for cleaning pool filter cartridge elements. It dissolves the oils and mineral deposits that clog filter media, restoring flow capacity.
