Benjamin Moore Paints FAQ

1What's the difference between ben, Regal Select and Aura?

ben is the value choice, zero VOC and easy to apply. Regal Select adds better washability and stain release for busy rooms. Aura is Benjamin Moore's top interior line, with the richest colour and best durability.

2How much interior paint do I need?

Most Benjamin Moore interior paints cover about 350–450 sq ft per 3.79 L per coat. A 12 × 12 ft bedroom with 8 ft ceilings has about 340 sq ft of wall after doors and windows, so two coats take about 2 gallons.

3How much exterior paint do I need, and when can I paint outside?

Aura Exterior and Regal Select Exterior cover 250–350 sq ft per 3.79 L. For 1,500 sq ft of siding, one coat takes about 5 cans, so plan on about 10 for two coats. Benjamin Moore lists a minimum of about 1.7 °C (35 °F) for these exterior paints and for Element Guard, on dry days.

4Do I need a primer?

Not usually on previously painted walls in good condition, since ben, Regal Select and Aura are paint and primer in one. Prime bare drywall patches, stains, glossy surfaces and big colour changes, for example with Fresh Start.

5What's the best Benjamin Moore paint for kitchens and bathrooms?

Use a mildew-resistant finish made for humidity, like Aura Bath & Spa or Kitchen & Bath. For trim and cabinets, Advance dries to a smooth, hard finish.

6What should I use on a deck?

Use an exterior stain made for decks, like Woodluxe, not wall paint. Clean the wood first, and see all exterior stains. Floor & Patio Enamel is for porch floors and concrete.

7Can you match a colour from another brand?
