Swing Paints FAQ

1Which Circa 1850 stripper should I use?

Use Furniture Stripper for furniture and flat pieces. Use Heavy Body for vertical surfaces such as doors, trim and railings, and for exterior work. Swing Paints says both are non-flammable, almost odourless and safe for fine furniture. Neither is for dye stains.

2How long do I leave the stripper on?

Swing Paints lists about 5 minutes (or until the finish blisters) for Furniture Stripper and about 15 minutes for Heavy Body. Keep the area wet, work 1 to 4 sq. ft. at a time, and avoid direct sun and wind.

3Do I need to wash or neutralize the wood afterwards?

Furniture Stripper needs no afterwash or neutralizing. After Heavy Body, wash the surface with Furniture Stripper or mineral spirits. Let it dry, then sand lightly before you stain or refinish.

4What safety steps should I take with paint strippers?

Wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection, work with ventilation, and keep strippers away from open flame. Contents may be under pressure, so open slowly under a rag. Both strippers can soften plastic and fibreglass. Read the product label and Safety Data Sheet before use.

5Can I refinish a bathtub or hot tub with Klenk's epoxy?

Yes, if you pick the right product. Epoxy Enamel is for tubs, sinks, tile and appliances. Swiss Formula ACR is for acrylic and fibreglass tubs, hot tubs and spas. Both are two-part epoxies that need warm, low-humidity conditions. Allow at least 5 days before using the surface.

6What is the difference between Nu-Lustre-55 and Nu-Lustre-57?

Both are two-part, high-gloss epoxy finishes mixed 1:1 that cure in about 24 hours at 20 to 25 C. Nu-Lustre-57 is the UV-resistant version, which Swing Paints says stays clear when other epoxies slowly amber. Choose it for outdoor items such as signs and paddles.

Swing Paints is a family-owned company based in Montreal, Quebec, and says its manufacturing is concentrated at a site there. Some products on this page, such as the Maple Scraper, are made of Canadian maple. For a specific product, contact us.
