Seal King Sealers FAQ

1Which Seal King sealer do I need for my driveway or patio?

For paving stone, interlock and brick, use the Paving Stone Sealer. For poured or stamped concrete, use the Premium Concrete Sealer. If you want no change in appearance, use Spall Shield.

2How much sealer do I need?

Seal King lists about 100 to 200 sq ft per gallon for the Paving Stone Sealer, and about 150 to 300 sq ft per gallon for the Concrete Sealer. A 20 × 20 ft driveway is 400 sq ft, which needs about 2 to 4 gallons of paving stone sealer, depending on how porous the stone is.

3What temperature and weather do I need to seal?

Seal King recommends applying above 10 °C (50 °F), with 10 to 30 °C best. Most sealers take 24 to 48 hours to fully dry and must stay dry during that time, so pick a day with no rain in the forecast. In Canada, that usually means late spring to early fall.

4How long should I wait to seal new concrete or pavers?

Seal King says new concrete needs about 28 days for water to evaporate before sealing. If you use polymeric sand on pavers, let the joints dry 24 to 48 hours before sealing.

5How often do I need to reseal?

Seal King recommends reapplying concrete sealer every two to five years. The Paving Stone Sealer is rated to last up to 3 years, and Spall Shield up to 10 years.

6Does Seal King protect against freeze/thaw damage and salt?

Seal King states that Spall Shield and the Natural Stone Sealer resist freeze/thaw cycles, and that the Paving Stone, Concrete and Natural Stone Sealers protect against salt. Check the data sheet for the product you choose.

7How do I remove white powder from my pavers?

That is efflorescence, a salt deposit. Seal King's Efflorescence Cleaner dissolves it, and 2 L covers about 800 sq ft. Wait about 60 days after laying new pavers before cleaning, and note it can come back.
