Masking Liquid H2O FAQ

1What is Masking Liquid H2O used for?

It is a water-based coating you brush, roll or spray over window and door glass so you can paint the wood frames without taping each pane. After painting, you lift the film and peel it off the glass.

2How much Masking Liquid H2O do I need?

The 946 mL covers about 100 sq ft and the 3.78 L covers up to 400 sq ft. A French door with 10 panes per side is roughly 20 sq ft of glass, so the 946 mL can cover several doors.

3Is masking liquid better than painter's tape on windows?

On glass-filled doors and windows, it saves hours, because you coat the glass once instead of taping every pane. For straight lines on walls and trim, painter's tape is still the better tool.

4Can I use Masking Liquid H2O on exterior windows?

Associated Paint lists it for interior use. For exterior frames, use tape or contact us for advice.

5What temperature can I apply it in?

Apply it between 10 and 32 °C (50 to 90 °F). In a Canadian winter, only mask when the room is within that range. Strong sun or big temperature swings on the glass make the film harder to peel, so remove it sooner.

6What paint can I use over the film?

Latex or acrylic paint after 4 hours, or alkyd paint after 12 hours. Do not use lacquers or strong-solvent coatings over it.

7What glass should I not use it on?

Do not use it on stained, frosted, etched, tinted, coated or textured glass, or on plastic such as Plexiglas. It is made for regular clear glass.
