Overview:
Osmo Polyx®-Oil High Solid is resistant to dirt, water and abrasion and smoothens the surface. Will not crack, flake, peel or bubble. In comparison to conventional finishes, the use of plant ingredients creates a more evenly coloured and more harmonious appearance. Simple application – without primer or intermediate sanding – this saves time and money.
Suitable for wood; microporous surface allows the wood to breathe and reduces swelling and shrinkage. Resistant to wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juice, milk and water according to DIN 68861-1A – no water spots. When dry, the finish is safe for people, animals, and plants. It is safe for children's toys in Europe and resistant to saliva and sweat in Germany.
Recommended Use:
Osmo Polyx®-Oil High Solid is a good choice for protecting various types of wooden floors. These include solid wood, plankwood, blockstrip, OSB, and cork floors. You can also use it on wood trim, sheet products, and furniture.
Solid Ingredients:
Based on natural vegetable oils and waxes (sunflower-oil, soybean-oil, thistle-oil, carnaubawax, candelilla wax), silica, siccatives (drying agents). Naphtha (petroleum), hydrotreated heavy (disaromatized, benzenefree). Complies with Environment Canada VOC regulations (SOR/2009-264).
Storage:
Up to 5 years and longer if can is kept dry and closed tightly. If thickened by frost, store for 24-36 hours at room temperature before use.
Surface Preparation:
Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%). Osmo Polyx®-Oil High Solid is ready to use, please do not thin. Stir well before use.
Clean or slightly sand old microporous stains thoroughly. You must completely remove old paints and lacquers. If required (rough surfaces) sand before application. As a general rule, wear a dust mask during sanding works.
Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood (with Osmo Wood Filler). Sand wood surfaces carefully.
Begin with coarse sandpaper. We recommend a final sanding with 120 - 150 grit sandpaper for flooring and 180 - 240 grit for furniture. Before oiling the surface, remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum.
Several factors influence the finished surface, including the wood's natural characteristics. You always need to conduct a trial application, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.
Application:
Osmo Polyx®-Oil High Solid is ready to use, please do not thin. Stir carefully before use.
First coat: Apply thinly and evenly with the wood grain using an Osmo Hand Brush, an Osmo Floor Brush or Osmo Floor Roller. Leave to dry for at least 8 - 10 hours. Ensure good ventilation and room temperatures above 18° C.
Second coat: Apply thinly as above. Remove surplus immediately. Alternatively apply second coat by scraper and buff the surface with a white pad.
Leave to dry at least 8 - 10 hours, ventilate well. You can buff or polish the surface with a hand polisher or buffing machine once it is thoroughly dry. When redoing an oiled surface, one coat on a clean, dry surface is usually enough.
You can also polish the finish into the floor using a single disc machine and non-abrasive pad.
