Osmo Polyx-Oil Hardwax Oil for Floors & Furniture
Osmo Polyx-Oil is a hardwax oil made from natural vegetable oils and waxes. It soaks into interior wood and leaves a microporous, hard-wearing finish that won't crack, peel or flake. Spot repairs and renewal need no sanding. Choose Raw, Matte, Satin or Gloss.

Where to Use It
Interior wood floors, stairs, furniture, cabinetry and interior woodwork, including solid wood, plank, strip, OSB and cork floors. Interior use only. For food-prep countertops and chopping boards, use TopOil instead.

- Raw (3051): keeps the untreated look of light woods like oak, ash, birch and maple.

Polyx-Oil or TopOil?
Polyx-Oil is the finish for floors, stairs and furniture. Osmo TopOil is Osmo's food-safe hardwax oil for countertops, butcher blocks and tabletops.

Application Guide
- Prep. Wood must be clean, dry and frost-free, under 18% moisture. Remove old paint and lacquer completely, fill gaps, then sand to the grits above and vacuum off all dust.
- Test first on a hidden spot, especially on unfamiliar or dense tropical woods.
- Warm the room. In winter, heat it above 18 °C and ventilate. If the can has thickened in the cold, leave it at room temperature for 24–36 hours.
- Stir well. Don't thin.
- First coat: apply thinly along the grain with a flat brush, floor brush or Osmo Microfibre Roller.
- Dry 8–10 hours, then apply a second thin coat and remove any surplus right away.
- Buff with a white pad once dry if you like, and keep rugs and wet mopping off for about 2 weeks.
FAQ
1How much Polyx-Oil do I need for a 200 sq ft room?
Two coats on 200 sq ft is 400 sq ft of coverage. At 258 sq ft per litre that is about 1.6 L, so buy a 2.5 L can. Two 750 mL cans (1.5 L) would be tight.
2Raw, Matte, Satin or Gloss?
Raw keeps light woods looking untreated. Matte, Satin and Gloss are clear and differ in sheen. Test on offcuts, as oil deepens the wood tone.
3Can I apply it over polyurethane or varnish?
No. Osmo says old paints and lacquers must be completely removed, so sand back to bare wood first. Old oil finishes only need cleaning, and one coat is usually enough.
4How long before I can use the floor?
Osmo gives no walk-on time. Allow at least 8–10 hours after the last coat, then about 2 weeks before rugs or damp-mopping.
5Can I use it on countertops?
For surfaces that touch food, use Osmo TopOil, which Osmo sells as food-safe. Polyx-Oil is rated toy-safe (EN 71.3) when dry, but Osmo does not list it for food contact.
6How do I clean and repair it?
Sweep or vacuum, then damp-mop with Osmo Wash and Care. Use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner for deeper cleaning. Worn spots can be re-oiled without sanding.
7Which applicator should I use?
For floors, stairs and heavy-wear surfaces use a brush or roller, which gives full durability in two coats. Pads need 3–4 coats and cloths 4–6.
8How do I clean up and handle oily rags?
Clean tools with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner, not water. Rags can self-ignite, so soak them in water or lay them flat to dry outdoors.
