Surface Preparation

Proper preparation is essential because Penofin Verde must penetrate into the wood.

Apply only to clean, dry, bare wood.

Interior wood: Lightly sand hardwoods with approximately 60–80 grit and softwoods with approximately 100–120 grit. Remove all sanding dust with a damp sponge, cloth or mop and allow the wood to dry for 24–48 hours before applying Verde.

New exterior wood: Penofin recommends First Step Prep to clean the wood and remove mill glaze.

Old bare wood: Clean with Penofin Pro-Tech Cleaner #2.

If greying or discolouration is present, follow cleaning with Penofin Pro-Tech Brightener #3.

Previously finished wood: If the surface was previously treated with a non-Penofin product, Penofin recommends chemically stripping the previous finish and following with Pro-Tech Cleaner #2 and Brightener #3.

Prepare Wood Before Applying Verde

Proper surface preparation helps Penofin Verde penetrate evenly and produce a more consistent finish.

For new or uncoated wood, use Penofin First Step Prep to help remove mill glaze and prepare the wood for a penetrating oil finish.

For older, dirty or weathered wood, clean the surface with Penofin Pro-Tech Cleaner #2]. If the wood is greyed, darkened or discoloured, follow cleaning with Penofin Pro-Tech Brightener #3 to help restore the natural appearance of the wood before staining.

Allow the wood to dry completely before applying Penofin Verde.

How to Apply Penofin Verde

Stir Penofin Verde thoroughly before and during application.

Apply when the temperature is between approximately 7°C and 26°C (45°F–85°F) with relative humidity no higher than 85%. Best results are achieved below approximately 80% relative humidity.

Do not apply when the wood is hot to the touch.

Verde can be applied using:

Apply one liberal coat to clean, dry, bare wood.

Important Oily Rag Safety
