Graco 288488 Contractor & FTx Gun Needle Repair Kit
The Graco 288488 is the genuine needle repair kit for Graco Contractor and FTx airless spray guns. It replaces the needle assembly and the diffuser assembly, the parts that wear first and cause leaks at the tip or a gun that won't shut off cleanly. Check your gun's part number against the list below before you order.
Compatible Guns
Graco's manual 311861 (Contractor and FTx Spray Guns) lists kit 288488 for both gun families. Models we sell with this kit:
- Contractor: 288420 (2 finger, RAC X), 288421 (2 finger, RAC V), 288425 (4 finger, RAC X).
- FTx: 288429 (2 finger, RAC X), 288430 (4 finger, RAC X), 288431 (2 finger, RAC V).
Not for the Contractor PC gun. The PC gun uses a ProConnect cartridge, 17Y297. Older Silver Plus guns use a different kit.
What's in the Kit
- Needle assembly
- Diffuser assembly
The kit does not include the tip, tip guard, filter or trigger.
Install Tips
- Relieve pressure and engage the trigger lock.
- Remove the tip and tip guard, then the nut and trigger pin.
- Unscrew the diffuser from the front of the gun and pull the old needle out through the front.
- Clean the passages inside the gun.
- Grease the new needle's o-rings with non-silicone grease and slide it in, lining up the flat sides with the housing.
- Fit the new diffuser and torque it to 26-30 ft-lbs (35-43 N·m), then reassemble and test with water or flushing fluid. A 1/8 in. Allen wrench is used for the alignment procedure.
FAQ
1Which guns does the 288488 fit?
Graco lists it for Contractor and FTx guns, including 288420, 288421, 288425, 288429, 288430 and 288431. Your gun's part number is on its label. If it isn't on the list, contact us before ordering.
2Does it fit the Contractor PC?
No. Graco lists the ProConnect cartridge 17Y297 for the Contractor PC, not this kit.
3How do I know the needle needs replacing?
Typical signs are paint dripping from the tip after you release the trigger, leaks at the front of the gun or a spray that spits. Clean the filter and tip first, since a clogged tip can look like a bad needle.
4What tools do I need?
Graco's manual 311861 covers the procedure. You need a torque wrench for the diffuser (26-30 ft-lbs), a 1/8 in. Allen wrench and non-silicone grease for the o-rings.
5Should I repair the gun or replace it?
If the housing and trigger are in good shape, the kit is the lower-cost fix. If the body is damaged or worn, a new gun such as the FTx 288430 makes more sense.
6Is this a genuine Graco part?
Yes. 288488 is Graco's own part number. Graco warrants its parts for 12 months from the date of sale.
