- Remove the enclosure cover and take the old pump out of the SmartControl enclosure.
- Seat the new pump with its bearing in the enclosure boss and its gear meshed with the motor gear.
- Do not remove the yellow pump locking device or spin the gear before the pump is in. Graco warns it will damage the pump.
- Hold the pump in place and pull the locking device tab out.
- Refit the cover (seven screws in Graco's manual) and check the assembly as the manual shows.
FAQ
1Which sprayers does the 17P185 fit?
Graco lists it for Corded Ultra Airless Handheld, Ultimate Corded and TC Pro Corded sprayers. Your sprayer's model number is on its label. If it is not named, contact us.
2Can I use a different Triax II pump?
3How do I know the pump is worn out?
Graco's 3A4433 manual lists "pump has reached the end of its life" as a cause of poor performance. Check the tip, filter and prime knob first, since they cause similar problems.
4Is it hard to install?
Graco sells it as a ProConnect drop-in pump for on-the-job replacement. Your repair manual, 3A4788, shows each step. Keep it open while you work.
5What tip size and pressure can the sprayer use?
Graco's handheld manuals give a maximum working pressure of 2000 psi and a maximum tip size of 0.016 in. A new pump does not change these limits.
6How do I make the new pump last?
Clean the sprayer after every job and fill it with Pump Armor. Graco says water left inside corrodes the pump. Store it at 32° to 113°F (0° to 45°C) and never let water freeze in it.
7Does it have a warranty?
Graco's handheld manuals give 12 months from the date of sale for defective parts, if properly installed and maintained. Contact us about a claim.
