The Graco 17P186 is the Triax II replacement pump for Ultra Cordless, Ultimate Cordless and TC Pro Cordless airless handheld sprayers. It is a drop-in ProConnect pump, so you can swap it on the job. Graco lists the 17P186 as the replacement pump for the Ultra Cordless 17M363.

Key Features

  • Triax II triple piston pump: Graco says it gives full tip support.
  • Built to last: stainless steel and carbide components, bonded with a high-strength polymer.
  • ProConnect: modular, drop-in design for fast replacement on the job.
  • No inlet check valve: Graco says this lets you prime and spray in seconds.
  • Service life: Graco says it pumps 3X more gallons before service.

Where to Use It

Graco lists the 17P186 for the Ultra Cordless, Ultimate Cordless and TC Pro Cordless sprayers. Not for corded sprayers and the UltraMAX, Ultimate MX and TC PRO PLUS models. If your model is not named here, contact us before ordering.

  2. Remove the enclosure cover and take the old pump out of the SmartControl enclosure.
  3. Seat the new pump with its bearing in the enclosure boss and its gear meshed with the motor gear.
  4. Do not remove the yellow pump locking device or spin the gear before the pump is in. Graco warns it will damage the pump.
  5. Hold the pump in place and pull the locking device tab out.
  6. Refit the cover (seven screws in Graco's manual) and check the assembly as the manual shows.
FAQ
1Which sprayers does the 17P186 fit?

Graco lists it for Ultra Cordless, Ultimate Cordless and TC Pro Cordless sprayers. Your sprayer's model number is on its label. If it is not named, contact us.

2Can I use a different Triax II pump?

Use the pump Graco lists for your model. Graco makes separate pumps for each group of handhelds. Corded sprayers use the 17P185. UltraMAX, Ultimate MX and TC PRO PLUS sprayers use the 17P187.

3How do I know the pump is worn out?

Graco's 3A4476 manual lists "pump has reached the end of its life" as a cause of poor performance. Check the tip, filter and prime knob first, since they cause similar problems.

4Is it hard to install?

Graco says the Triax pump on the Ultra Cordless can be replaced in three steps with only a screwdriver. Follow manual 3A4788 for the full procedure.

5What tip size and pressure can the sprayer use?

Graco's handheld manuals give a maximum working pressure of 2000 psi and a maximum tip size of 0.016 in. A new pump does not change these limits.

6How do I make the new pump last?

Clean the sprayer after every job and fill it with Pump Armor. Graco says water left inside corrodes the pump. Store it at 32° to 113°F (0° to 45°C) and never let water freeze in it.

7Does it have a warranty?

Graco's handheld manuals give 12 months from the date of sale for defective parts, if properly installed and maintained. Contact us about a claim.
