EnviroCat 150 Crosslinker for Water-Based Finishes

Envirolak EnviroCat 150 Crosslinker (ELCAT150) is a high-performance crosslinker designed to improve the durability and performance of compatible Envirolak water-based finishes. When added to topcoats, ELCAT150 improves hardness, chemical resistance, scratch resistance and mar resistance for a tougher, longer-lasting finish.

ELCAT150 can also improve adhesion and water resistance when used with compatible Envirolak basecoats and primers. For vertical spray applications, the addition of EnviroCat 150 helps reduce orange peel and promotes a smoother, more uniform finish.

Unlike conventional catalysts that may cause unused material to gel, coatings mixed with ELCAT150 remain usable after the crosslinker's effective period has passed. The functional crosslinking period is approximately 8–12 hours. After this period, unused coating can be re-crosslinked following Envirolak's recommended procedure.

Mixing & Application

Mix Ratio: Add ELCAT150 at 3% by weight to the compatible Envirolak coating.

Mixing: Stir thoroughly into the coating. Mechanical agitation is recommended whenever possible to ensure the crosslinker is completely and evenly incorporated.

Application: Apply the coating according to the instructions for the specific Envirolak primer, topcoat or sealer being used.

Functional Period: ELCAT150 provides approximately 8–12 hours of enhanced crosslinking performance after mixing. After this period, the coating remains usable but no longer receives the same enhanced performance from the original addition of crosslinker.

Re-Crosslinking Material

Unused material does not need to be discarded simply because the 8–12 hour functional crosslinking period has passed.

To re-crosslink previously mixed material, Envirolak recommends blending it 1:1 with fresh, uncatalyzed material, then adding ELCAT150 at 3% by weight to the combined mixture.
