HVLP Paint Gun FAQ

1Which HVLP gun should I buy?

Match it to your turbine. Fuji T-Model and M-Model guns are made for Fuji turbines, and Graco EDGE II guns are made for FinishPro HVLP sprayers. Then pick the cup style that suits your work: bottom feed for big jobs, gravity feed for cabinets and furniture.

2Gravity feed or bottom feed: which is better?

Gravity feed guns carry the cup on top, so they use less paint and suit small and medium jobs. A bottom feed gun like the Fuji T70 holds 1 quart (1000 cc) and needs fewer refills.

3Can I use an HVLP gun with an air compressor?

Not the turbine guns here. Fuji says its 9622 touch-up gun will not work with an air compressor, and turbine guns are made for turbine airflow. Check the product page before you buy.

4Do I need to thin my paint for an HVLP gun?

Often a little, depending on the coating and your turbine. Follow the coating maker's directions and check viscosity with a Ford cup. Test on scrap before you spray the piece.

5What air cap size do I need?

Thin coatings like stain and lacquer suit smaller caps, and thicker paints suit larger ones. Fuji sells T-Series and M-Series air cap sets in sizes from 0.8 to 2.5 mm. See HVLP Spray Accessories.

6What is the difference between the Graco EDGE II and EDGE II Plus?

Both are 1 quart, 20 oz guns for FinishPro HVLP sprayers. The Plus adds a Quick Clean Check Valve for heavier materials. The 17P483 comes with a FlexLiner cup instead of a metal one.

7What can I spray with an HVLP gun?

Stains, varnish, lacquer, enamel and latex, on cabinets, doors, furniture and trim. For large exterior walls or whole-house repaints, an airless sprayer is much faster.
