Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior Paint
Aura Exterior is Benjamin Moore's top exterior paint, a 100% acrylic waterborne paint built around Colour Lock technology for rich, fade-resistant colour. It resists rain, snow, wind and UV and can be applied down to 1.7 °C (35 °F). Choose Flat, Low Lustre, Satin or Soft-Gloss.
Key Features
- Colour Lock technology for deep colour and fade resistance.
- Low-temperature application: apply at 1.7–37.7 °C (35–100 °F), which stretches the Canadian painting season.
- Self-priming on most properly prepared surfaces.
- Breathable coating that resists blistering.
- Limited lifetime warranty for original residential purchasers (see data sheet for terms).
- Low-VOC (under 50 g/L) and cleans up with soap and water.
Where to Use It
Exterior wood, fibre cement, hardboard, vinyl and aluminum siding, shakes, unglazed brick, concrete, stucco, cinder block and primed metal. Exterior use only. Do not apply below 1.7 °C or above 37.7 °C. Do not paint vinyl siding in a colour darker than the original or with an LRV under 55, unless it is a Benjamin Moore Colour for Vinyl. For deck floors, see Woodluxe below.

Application Guide
- Check the weather. Air and surface must be at least 1.7 °C. Cool or humid weather slows drying.
- Prep. Wash off dirt, mildew and chalk. Scrape loose paint and dull glossy areas.
- Prime where needed. Most properly prepared surfaces need no primer. Use Fresh Start High-Hiding All Purpose Primer on bleeding woods, concrete, fibre cement and pitted vinyl, and a metal primer on bare metal.
- Stir well, then apply with a nylon/polyester brush, premium roller or airless sprayer, working from dry into wet areas.
- Second coat after 4 hours if needed.
- Wait 2 weeks before washing the surface.
FAQ
1How much Aura Exterior do I need for my house?
A 3.79 L can covers 250–350 sq ft per coat. For 1,500 sq ft of siding, one coat takes about 5 to 6 cans. Bare surfaces need two coats, so plan on about 9 to 12 cans.
2How late in the season can I paint?
Benjamin Moore lists a minimum of 1.7 °C (35 °F) for air and surface. Cool, humid weather slows drying.
3Which finish should I choose?
Flat or Low Lustre for siding and stucco. Satin or Soft-Gloss for trim, shutters and doors. Only Low Lustre comes in the 18.9 L pail.
4Do I need a primer?
Usually not. Aura Exterior is self-priming on most properly prepared surfaces. Prime bleeding woods like cedar, concrete, fibre cement, pitted vinyl and bare metal.
5Can I use it on vinyl siding?
Yes, but not in a colour darker than the original or with an LRV under 55, unless it is a Benjamin Moore Colour for Vinyl.
6How many coats does it need?
Two on bare surfaces. One or two on previously painted surfaces, with 4 hours between coats at 25 °C and 50% humidity.
7How long before it can rain?
Benjamin Moore's data sheet gives no rain-free time. The paint is touch-dry in 1 hour at 25 °C and 50% humidity, and slower when cool or damp. Paint when no rain is forecast.
8Can I get Aura Exterior in any colour?
Yes. It's tinted to any Benjamin Moore colour, and we can match colours from other brands. Enter the colour name and number when you order, or contact us with questions.
