The Graco Ultra 490 XT Hi-Boy is the cart-mounted version of the Ultra 490 XT airless sprayer. It delivers up to 0.7 gallons per minute at up to 3,300 psi and takes tips up to 0.025 in. It's built for contractors and serious DIYers who paint often and would rather roll the sprayer than carry it.

What It's For

Setup & Use
- Connect the hose and gun. Don't spray with a hose shorter than 25 ft.
- Plug into a grounded 120 V outlet. Use a 12 AWG or heavier extension cord.
- Fill the TSL port with throat seal liquid each day you spray. It slows packing wear.
- Prime. Put the suction tube in your paint, open the prime valve and run the pump until paint comes out of the return tube. Then close the prime valve.
- Test on cardboard. Raise the pressure until the spray pattern is even.
- Spray with steady, overlapping passes.
- Relieve pressure before stopping or servicing: trigger lock on, motor and pressure off, prime valve down, then trigger the gun into a grounded metal pail.
- Clean up. Flush with water for water-based paint or mineral spirits for oil-based paint until the fluid runs clear.
FAQ
1Which spray tip should I use?
The included 517 suits latex on walls and ceilings. The first digit doubled is the fan width in inches. The last two digits are the opening in thousandths of an inch. Go to a smaller tip, such as a 310 to 413, for trim and cabinets. Use a larger one for primer or thick coatings, up to 0.025 in.
2How much paint can it spray, and is it enough for a whole house?
It delivers up to 0.7 GPM, so the pump rarely limits you. Graco doesn't publish a gallons-per-week rating. Plan from the paint's label. For example, 2,000 sq ft of walls at 350 sq ft per gallon is about 6 gallons per coat.
3What's the difference between the Hi-Boy and the Stand?
Graco lists the same pressure, flow and tip size. The Hi-Boy (19D521) is on a cart frame and weighs 66 lb. The Stand (19D519) weighs 31 lb.
4Can two people spray from one machine?
Graco's documents don't list two-gun use, so plan for one gun. For two painters, choose a larger sprayer.
5What hose length can I use?
Graco says not to use a hose shorter than 25 ft, and recommends High Pressure Mode for extended hose lengths. Graco's manual gives no maximum length.
6How do I repair the pump?
Graco lists the 18B260 pump repair kit as compatible. We stock the Graco 18B260 pump packing repair kit.
7How do I clean it?
Relieve pressure, put the suction tube in flushing fluid and run it until the fluid is clear. Use water for water-based paint and mineral spirits for oil-based paint.
8What warranty does it have?
Graco's manual states 12 months from the date of sale. Graco's brochure lists longer coverage for the motor and drivetrain. Contact us for the terms that apply.

30-Day Replacement Guarantee
If you are dissatisfied, you can return your sprayer to us or any authorized service center within 30 days of purchase and either exchange the product for an identical sprayer or trade up to a larger Graco sprayer for an extra cost. The service center simply orders the replacement sprayer from Graco and completes a warranty claim for credit for the original sprayer.
- Claim date must be no more than 60 days beyond the purchase date for return authorization.
- Sprayers must be received back at Graco within 30 days from the claim date.
- Graco will pay the return freight if an approved carrier is used, however, the service center is responsible for packaging the return to prevent damage in transit.
