INSL-X Prime Lock Plus Alkyd Primer Sealer
INSL-X Prime Lock Plus is a high-hiding, stain-blocking alkyd primer sealer for interior and exterior surfaces. Its penetrating oil-based formula locks in water, tannin, smoke and fire stains, plus household marks, graffiti, crayon, lipstick and fingerprints. It works under oil or latex paint and covers 550–650 sq ft per 3.79 L.

Where to Use It
Drywall, plaster, wood, cedar and redwood, and previously painted or varnished surfaces, inside or out. Also a wallpaper primer for easy hanging and removal. Not for walking surfaces. Dull glossy areas first. Not listed for Formica, tile or PVC: use Stix or Aqua Lock Plus.

Choose Prime Lock Plus for heavy water, smoke and fire stains, tannin bleed and cooler weather. Aqua Lock Plus is water-based, recoats in 1 hour, cleans up with soap and water and comes in black.

One 3.79 L covers 550–650 sq ft. A 12 × 12 ft room with 8 ft ceilings has about 350 sq ft of wall after doors and windows, so one can primes the walls with room to spare. Severe stains may need a second coat.

3Will it stop cedar from bleeding through my paint?
Yes. It's listed for cedar and redwood to prevent tannin bleed. Let the wood dry thoroughly, and sand smooth planed siding to break the mill glaze first.
4Can I paint latex over it?
Yes. It works under both oil and latex topcoats. It's dry to the touch in 1–2 hours and ready to recoat in 3–4 hours.
5Can I use it over glossy paint or varnish?
Yes, on previously painted or varnished surfaces. Dull glossy areas with a light sanding first. For Formica, tile and PVC, use Stix.
6Can I use it outside?
Yes, on interior and exterior surfaces. It isn't for walking surfaces such as decks and floors.
7How late in the season can I use it?
The surface, the air and the primer need to be 7.2 °C or warmer, and you shouldn't paint within 5° of the dew point. That gives you a longer fall season than most water-based primers. Cool, damp weather slows drying.
8Does it seal knots?
Knots aren't on the data sheet. It's listed for tannin bleed from cedar and redwood. For heavily knotted pine, ask our team what to use.

How to apply
Lock it in.
- Clean. Remove dirt, grease, soap, wax, mildew and loose paint, and feather-sand the edges.
- Dull glossy areas and remove all drywall sanding dust.
- Check the weather. Surface, air and primer at 7.2 °C or warmer, and not within 5° of the dew point.
- Stir well. Don't thin.
- Apply one coat by brush, roller, pad or sprayer. Severe stains may need two.
- Topcoat after 3–4 hours with latex or oil. Clean tools with mineral spirits and lay oily rags flat or store them in a sealed, water-filled metal can.
